I agree to abide by the General Rules of Redbrook Sailing Club and of British Waterways/ Canal and River Trust. In addition I confirm that all craft used by me or my family will have adequate insurance cover for third party and passenger liability for a minimum of £2 million and for full racing risks at all times when the craft(s) is in use. (The committee reserves the right to have the Club’s interest noted in the policy and documentary proof of the policy must be available on demand) 

 All boats must be securely locked when left in the boat park.

 

I acknowledge that Redbrook Sailing club will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury or death sustained, in conjunction with, prior to, during or after any activity.

RED BROOK SAILING CLUB GENERAL RULES

 

 

1.0 The name of the club is "The Red Brook Sailing Club" and the object of the club is to promote and facilitate the sailing of dinghies of all recognized classes up to 5 metres at the discretion of the Management Committee.

1.a The club is non profit making, any surplus income or gains will be reinvested into the club, and does not permit any distribution of club assets, in cash or in kind to members or third parties.

1.b On dissolution, any assets of the club will be applied for approved sporting or charitable purposes.

2.0 The headquarters of the club shall be, The Clubhouse, Standedge Road, Marsden.

3.0 Membership of the club is open to all the community and without discrimination on ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, beliefs, sex, age or disability except as a necessary consequence of the requirements of sailing. Any amateur, who is keen and interested in boating, is eligible as a candidate for membership.

4.0 The club shall consist of full, family, and junior sailing members and affiliated non sailing members. Family membership consists of all adults and children in full time education at the same address. Groups such as youth groups may apply to use the facilities of the Club as agreed by the Management Committee at fees annually negotiated with the management committee. The Sailing programme, which is planned before the start of the season, will take priority over other non-sailing activities. A calendar of planned events will be issued with the membership card on joining or renewing membership, updates will be available on the web site and on the club notice board.

5.0 All prospective members must fill in an application Form and send to the Club Secretary. Their names will be brought before the Management Committee at their next Monthly meeting. Acceptance of membership by the Management Committee is by simple majority and the new member is issued with a Membership Card

Members will be entitled to introduce a guest who may enjoy the benefits of the Club including participation in its racing for a day sailing fee to be set by the Management Committee.

This privilege may be withdrawn at any time by the Management Committee.

6.0 Any member desirous of retiring from the Club shall notify their intention to the Honorary Secretary on or before the last day of March otherwise they shall be liable for that year's subscription.

7.0 All members, on joining the club, undertake to comply with these rules and any refusal or neglect to do so, or any conduct which in the opinion of the Management Committee is either unworthy of a member or otherwise injurious to the interests of the club, shall render a member liable to expulsion by the Management Committee provided that before expelling a member the Committee shall call upon him/her for an explanation of his /her conduct and shall give him/her an opportunity of defending himself/herself or of resigning their membership.

8.0 The annual subscription payable on election and in subsequent years on the 1st of March shall be determined by the Management Committee and ratified or otherwise by the Annual General Meeting. No member shall, in any year, be entitled to exercise any rights or privileges until the subscriptions for that year and any arrears, if any are paid.

9.0 Termination of membership. When a member decides to cease membership, he/she shall return property belonging to Red Brook Sailing Club and remove his/her chattels from the Club premises. In the event of a member not removing his/her property the Club is authorized to dispose of them after first making reasonable effort to contact the ex-member.

10.0FFICERS The Club shall consist of a Commodore, a Vice Commodore, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Honorary Bosun, Honorary Sailing Secretary, Honorary Social Secretary who shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting with the exception of the Vice Commodore, the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer who shall be elected biannually. Retiring officers shall be eligible for re-election.

11.0 COMMITTEE  The Management Committee shall consist of the ex-officio officers and five full members of the club, with the power to co-opt three further members as found necessary, who shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Sailing Secretary has the power to co-opt additional members as found necessary.

12.0 The property of the Sailing Club shall be vested in three Trustees.

13.0 The Honorary Auditors shall be appointed by the Annual General Meeting.

14.0 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Annual General Meeting shall be held in the Clubhouse or other venue decided by the Management Committee on some day in November.

The Honorary Secretary shall give at least fourteen days notice in writing before the date of such meeting.

15.0 Amendments or alterations of these rules shall only be made at the Annual General Meeting (or in exceptional circumstances by an Extraordinary General Meeting, notice of which shall be given in writing), by a majority of two thirds of the present and voting members. Any amendments or alterations must be in the hands of the Honorary Secretary, in writing duly proposed and seconded by full members by the first day in October in each year. Notice of such proposed amendments or alterations must be given in the notice covering the Annual General Meeting.

16.0 A full member shall have one vote and a family member shall have one vote which will be in the name of the person holding the membership card. Prospective members shall not have a vote.

17.0 Members and crews/guests should always wear adequate personal buoyancy aids whilst on or around the water and on the jetties.

18.0 It is the responsibility of every boat owner/keeper to ensure that their craft and its components are in a safe condition whenever they are used and that insurance cover, to a minimum level set by the Management Committee, is held.

19.0 It is the responsibility of each member to use the water only when all conditions are appropriate for their skill level.

rule 3 amended and Rule4 amended to define membership and comply with CASC at AGM 2004.Rule 4 amended at AGM 2008

to change from social membership and include affiliated members with priority of sail over non-sailing activities. Rules 3,4 & 5 amended at EGM 14/3/2012. Rules 17,18 & 19 introduced at EGM 14/3/2012
